When Jon awoke, he was laying on the couch. It was still dark outside, and the full moon’s light was shining brightly through the window, “A-Arin…?” Jon stammered tiredly, rubbing his eyes, and shifting on the couch. He was in the living room, and it was pretty late to be up; he barely had any energy.
There was an inhuman looking thing sprawled out on the ground, and was barely visible in the darkness of the room. Jon’s eyes went wide, and his breathing softened, as he froze. His heart beat quickened as a feeling of sheer terror came over him, “Oh, God…” He whispered under his breath.
That inhuman looking thing was Arin. Arin Hanson. His best friend for years, and hopefully years to come; but now… his best friend was a monster. An absolute monster, which was out of control and had apparently, dragged him onto the couch.
Jon was about to cry he was so scared, but he needed to run; it wasn't safe here. The quietness of the room mixed with the deep intimidating breathing of the horrifying Egoraptor caused the room’s creepiness to only grow. Jon decided if he could make it to his room, he could lock the doors and wait till morning arrived to see if Arin had changed at all.
He stood up hesitantly, and slowly began to step off of the couch; his heart racing in fear and anxiety. All he could hope was that he wouldn't be killed tonight as he stepped past Arin, but the second he did, the beast’s eyes opened. They were illuminated a bright red, and his fangs shown as he slowly ran his tongue across them.
Jon froze, heart beating quicker. He began to feel slightly dizzy as he was paralyzed in fear. All he could do was stand still.
Arin immediately stood up, his fur standing up in the back, and he snarled at Jon loudly, then a low growl began to grow in the back of his throat.
Jon gulped, “A-Arin… It’s me… Jon!” Jon said shakily, tearing up, “Arin… Please don’t kill me.”
Arin stared down Jon, and then growled loudly, the intimidating noise turning into a harsh howl. Jon’s eyes went wide, as his breathing hitched in terror, and he took a step back, running for the door, life depending on it.
He knocked over a small desk, and pushed the rug over in his haste. Arin bolted after him, moving at a speed that was unbelievable, and then he halted, blocking the exit.
Jon skidded to a stop, and then turned around, tears streaming down his face as he ran down the hall, and into his room, slamming the door, and knocking down a picture frame of him and Arin on the wall; it shattered. The sound of the glass was sensitive on Arin’s ears, causing the creature to flinch, and then whine.
This gave Jon a little more time to plan out where to go, and what to do to survive. He panicked, and felt the world distort around him and he huddled over in a corner of a closet, shutting the door and sobbing quietly, “No… Please, no… I don’t want to die…” He cried softly, voice cracking.
He stared on horror as Arin burst through the room’s door, and began to sniff around. Jon winced, shivering and heart beating at an unnatural pace as Arin got closer to the closet door.
Jon got on his knees, and began to say a short prayer, but before he could finish, Arin pawed open the door. Jon flinched, and began to cry loudly, “NO! PLEASE!” He sobbed, “ARIN NO!”
Arin lifted a paw, and then growled loudly. Before Jon could react, he saw Arin pause.
Arin’s eyes were locked on a Grump merchandise shirt beside Jon. The shirt was orange with the Game Grumps logo on it.
Jon didn't let his guard down, but watched Arin closely.
“Y-Yeah… that’s right buddy. Do you remember?” Jon asked hopefully, tears stopping. Arin tilted his head in confusion.
“You’re grump! I’m not so Grump~, and we’re the…” He trailed off, looking at Arin, eyes full of hope, “Game grumps…”
Although the moment was beautiful, Arin struck his lifted paw down on Jon, digging his nails into Jon’s flesh. The chubbier male cried out in absolute pain, “ARIN! WAKE UP! THIS ISN'T YOU!” He sobbed, happiness shattered.
Jon lunged to the right to avoid another strike. When he did this, the closet mirror in the back was visible, causing Arin to freeze once again.
He saw the mirror, and Jon could have sworn Arin might have looked scared. The creature that he saw wasn't himself. Arin took a step back in confusion and whined gently, shaking his head, and not being able to handle the fact that he’s almost hurt Jon.
Jon watched as Arin’s pointed ears flattened, and he turned and ran away, “A-Arin…?” Jon whispered.
Arin just whined again from the hall, and the footsteps got fainter. He wasn’t about to go after his friend; not after what just happened, but Jon knew Arin was still there, even with the body of a beast of the night.
His friend still existed, and refused to hurt him. Jon curled up, using the grump shirt as a cover, as he decided to camp in the closet tonight.
Everything would work itself out in the morning, no need to stress over it at 3:00am.
